An Exascale Programming, Multi-objective Optimisation and Resilience Management Environment Based on Nested Recursive Parallelism
The tremendous challenge of developing applications efficiently utilizing the hardware provided by contemporary parallel systems of all scales is among the most limiting factors for the continuous growth of high performance computing.
The AllScale project addresses this problem by providing a tool chain for the effective development of such applications. The design of the AllScale tool chain is based on 3 key principles:
Enabling the separation of responsibilities in the development of HPC applications,
Utilizing industry standard programming languages and preserving compatibility to existing development and debugging tools, as well as,
Employing advanced programming language, compilation and runtime system technology to transparently integrate sophisticated services into parallel applications.
AllScale is expected to boost the parallel applications development productivity, their portability, and runtime efficiency. It will reduce energy needs, and thus improves the resource efficiency utilization of small to extreme scale parallel systems.
The achieved outcomes are being validated with the AllScale pilot applications related to the space weather simulations, environmental hazard and fluid dynamics:
iPIC3D - implicit Particle-in-Cell code for Space Weather Applications
AMDADOS - Adaptive Meshing and Data Assimilation for the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
Fine/Open - Large Industrial unsteady CFD simulations
All are provided by the SME, industry and academic consortium partners.
Detailed information about the AllScale project is available under the Project Overview.
PostDoc position: Exascale Software for Extreme Scale HPC (at the University of Innsbruck, Austria)
To strengthen our project team, we are looking for a postdoc researcher to carry out research in optimizing and parallelizing compilers for C++ applications on extreme scale supercomputers.
We offer an exciting perspective of early-career research in an excellent international environment.
We are looking for an individual with strong expertise in the development of compilers and/or runtime systems for HPC preferably in C++.
Applications will be considered until the positions are filled. Please send your application to the AllScale coordinator (email@example.com). The position is open immediately and scheduled to run at least until September 2021.
The AllScale project is based on the following hypothesis:
A unified, recursive parallel programming model coupled with advanced, parallelism- and context-aware compiler and runtime optimisation, provides the potential for productive development of Exascale applications that are more scalable, versatile, resilient and portable than their conventionally implemented counterparts.
